#Sustainment

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stout has departed Naval Station Norfolk for deployment following extensive training, depot maintenance, and operational certifications to reinforce Atlantic Fleet combat readiness.

The U.S. Air Force is accelerating fighter deployments to CENTCOM amid persistent regional conflicts, disrupting standardized rotational models. High operational tempo across active and Guard squadrons is elevating long-term readiness, force sustainment, and airmen retention concerns for defense leaders.

Major government contracting and technology services providers—including Amentum, ASRC Federal, Atlassian, and Alpha Omega—have executed a series of high-level executive appointments. These strategic leadership shifts emphasize aggressive business development, predictive mission sustainment, and expanded public sector technology integration.

Lt. Gen. Jason D. Voorheis has assumed command of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, overseeing a $400 billion acquisition and sustainment portfolio. His background leading C3BM will drive battle-network integration across legacy and next-generation air platforms.

The U.S. Army DEVCOM Armaments Center has introduced SixPAC, a hybrid polymer-and-steel ammunition packaging solution designed to reduce transport weight and enhance tactical distribution for small-caliber munitions, boosting operational readiness and supply chain efficiency across contested battlefields.

The Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex hosted a Tiger Cruise near Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton before returning to homeport in San Diego. The event highlights naval personnel retention efforts and operational transitions toward shipyard maintenance.

Airmen from the 187th Fighter Wing completed Operation Tuskegee Thunder at Dannelly Field, Alabama, testing rapid sortie generation and austere sustainment concepts for the F-35A Lightning II to ensure fifth-generation airpower readiness in high-threat environments.

Oregon Army National Guard aircrews have initiated aerial firefighting operations in Umatilla County, underscoring the growing operational demand for Defense Support of Civil Authorities assets and its ripple effects on rotary-wing fleet sustainment.

Solid rocket motor supply shortages pose a critical vulnerability for U.S. air and missile defense readiness. Without strategic acquisition shifts and industrial base expansion, replenishing expended interceptors in a high-tempo conflict could take years.

A narrower scope means a narrower bidders' pool, and a much shorter integration runway.

The pilot proved the technology. The scale phase will prove the sustainment model.
