Editorial independence, attribution, and corrections

Editorial decisions at Defense Signals are made solely by the editorial desk. No sponsor, advertiser, subscriber, vendor, or commercial partner has any right of review, approval, or pre-publication notice, and none is given.

Commercial staff do not assign, edit, or block coverage. Coverage of an organisation is never contingent on a commercial relationship, and ending a commercial relationship never changes how we cover an organisation.

Mission-partner sponsorships and any other paid placements are labelled as such at the point of display, are visually distinct from editorial content, and never appear inside the body of an editorial Signal as though they were reporting. Sponsors do not receive keyword targeting against negative coverage.

Facts are attributed to the source that carries them, and links point to the primary record wherever one exists. Quotations are used verbatim and in context; where a quote is trimmed for length, the trimming never changes its meaning. We do not publish anonymous claims about named organisations without corroborating primary evidence.

Contributors disclose to the desk any employment, consulting, equity, or advisory relationship with an organisation they would be covering. Where a relationship exists and the coverage still has editorial merit, the relationship is disclosed in the published piece, or the contributor is recused.

Generative AI is used for drafting summaries, semantic indexing, and retrieval-augmented answers over our own content. Every AI-assisted output that reaches publication is reviewed by a human editor against the underlying sources, and the credited author remains accountable for accuracy. We correct errors promptly, visibly, and in place. Our practice:

• Correction — a factual error is fixed in the published text and a dated correction note is appended describing what was wrong and what it now says. We do not silently edit facts.
• Clarification — where text was accurate but open to misreading, we reword it and append a dated clarification note.
• Update — where new information supersedes an assessment, we add a dated update rather than rewriting history, and the page's modified date changes.
• Retraction — where a piece cannot be salvaged, it is retracted, the reason is stated on the page, and the URL continues to resolve.

To request a correction, write to desk@defensesignals.com with the page URL and the specific statement at issue, or use the Defense Signals contact form. We acknowledge correction requests and tell you the outcome.

We do not unpublish accurate reporting on request. Where publication would create a demonstrable safety, legal, or security risk, or where material was published in error, the desk reviews the request and records the decision. Legal notices go to legal@defensesignals.com.
